89.7 Power FM: New Logo, Same Great Ministry

By John Rothra | June 21, 2008

KVRK 89.7 Power FM: The Christian Rock StationJohn Rothra Ministries has proudly endorsed 89.7 Power FM, a Christian rock station based in Dallas that broadcast over the airwaves and live online. Recently, the station revised their website, including the logo, reflecting a new look to the ministry that encourages many and reaches many more with the gospel of Christ. John Rothra Ministries has changed the logo on the right to the new one.

I recently read an article entitled, “Christian radio and lack of the gospel,” about a station in another city that toned down its evangelistic message. In doing so, the station became more of an inspirational tool than an evangelistic ministry of Christ. However, 89.7 Power FM continues to provide Scriptural messages, edifying words, and the true gospel of Christ: they are dedicated to their evangelistic mission.

While not everyone enjoys the style of music they play, that does not detract from the quality of their ministry. They survive on the generosity of their listeners and I encourage anyone who reads this who enjoys the station to help support them financially. There are a variety of ways to help, from joining “Club 3000″ at $20 per month (less than one burger meal a week), become a “day sponsor,” give a one time gift, or other ways. I would not ask anyone to do what I am not willing to do, and my family already supports the station financially as an offering to God.

Where Pillar Meets Skid Row

By John Rothra | June 5, 2008

Pillar - For the Love of the GameIn high school I listened to secular hard rock acts, now known as the 80’s and 90’s metal hair bands. The students in my school, Jacksonville High in Jacksonville, Arkansas, typified the diversity of the early nineties (I was part of the class of 1992). During one special event for the seniors, the class put on a show in the auditorium where pictures were shown from throughout the years together. This pictorial walk down memory lane was set to music selected by the students, allowing them to express themselves in both images and sound. Two of the main songs chosen were Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road” and Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild,” an interesting, if not eccentric combination; an R&B boy band united with hard rock. I enjoyed both, but favored Skid Row.

To this day, my musical choice is for the hard rock, though I do enjoy a wide variety, including country, contemporary, pop, and others. In some ways, you could say that guys never do grow up. But I digress.
