I’m proud of my father
By John Rothra | January 8, 2008
My father, Keith Rothra, was asked by many people to run for chairman of his county Republican party. After much time in prayer and thought, he accepted the call to run. Doing so would not be easy; it would be expensive, difficult, and stressful. However, he chose to take on the task in order to serve, something he knows how to do and does very well.
Recently, we learned that nobody else filed to run for that office, including the incumbent. As as result, my father will become the next chairman. This saves many people the difficulty of a campaign and allows everyone to focus on coming back together.
This post is not about partisan politics. Rather, it’s about a son’s pride in his father. Some of what makes me proud is the following:
- Dad prayed hard before accepting the call
- He led the campaign staff who wanted to pray in those prayers
- He continually sought God’s guidance
- When he began to wonder if it was the right thing to do, he asked God to show him the answer
- Dad was willing to serve in a position that pays nothing
And this is not a comprehensive list by any stretch of the imagination. Suffice it to say…
Dad, I’m proud of you and I love you!
