Eschatology, Part 4: Millennium

Posted by John L. Rothra on January 19, 2008 under Eschatology | 3 Comments to Read

Millennium is a term that refers to a time period of one thousand (1,000) years. When used in reference to Scripture, and eschatology specifically, it is the future time in which many believe Christ rules on earth for 1,000 years (Rev 20:1-4).

When studying the millennium, one encounters three differing views: premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism. Premillennialism teaches that Christ will return to the earth and, afterward, rule for one thousand years; Jesus returns before the millennium. Post-millennialsim teaches that Christ returns after a long period of time when Christianity has brought about a time of prosperity and peace; Jesus returns after the millennium. Amillennialism teaches that there is no millennium, either figurative or literal. Of these, pre- and amillennialism are the more prominent today.

Not all outreach is evangelistic, but it can be

The story explains that the pastor of a “nontraditional church,” referring to its practice of encouraging casual dress and consuming coffee and donuts during services, will pass out You’re Invited to Churchshot glasses in local bars. These shot glasses will ask people to “give us a shot” and contain the slogan “Real church for real people.” No mention of presenting the gospel message is listed in the article.

Many Baptists oppose the drinking of alcohol; many even condemn or forbid entering bars or other venues that serve alcoholic beverages. As such, it would not be unexpected for them to condemn this pastor or others who enter bars for the purpose of bringing people to Christ. Some questions that may be asked include:

I’m proud of my father

Posted by John L. Rothra on January 8, 2008 under General | Comments are off for this article

My father, Keith Rothra, was asked by many people to run for chairman of his county Republican party. After much time in prayer and thought, he accepted the call to run. Doing so would not be easy; it would be expensive, difficult, and stressful. However, he chose to take on the task in order to serve, something he knows how to do and does very well.

Recently, we learned that nobody else filed to run for that office, including the incumbent. As as result, my father will become the next chairman. This saves many people the difficulty of a campaign and allows everyone to focus on coming back together.

This post is not about partisan politics. Rather, it’s about a son’s pride in his father. Read more of this article »
