What a day, week, month . . . what a year!
By John Rothra | December 1, 2007
Ever had one of those days or weeks when you find yourself doing too much, feeling as if there is no way you will accomplish everything you need to do, least of all what you want to do? In about four months I plan on returning to Hope Community Fellowship Church in Columbus, Ohio (map). I’ve had the honor of preaching revival services there the past couple of years and, well, I guess they aren’t tired of me yet. Seriously, I’m convinced they’ve blessed me more than I blessed them.
In about four months, I plan on returning; I was there eight months ago. Despite the numbers, this year has been so busy that it seems that I just left there a couple months ago.
Along those lines, this week my boss asked me to give him my final exam schedule as soon as possible. I had thought nothing of it because final exams were always a few weeks away. But, at the first opportunity, I went to a computer and pulled up the schedule for final exams. To my surprise, I discovered that the exams begin next Thursday! Technically they start on Friday, but those with Thursday night classes have exams on the so-dubbed “dead day” of Thursday. But back to the point, I was taken aback with how quickly final exam time had come. The semester seems like it just started.
This semester, this year, has gone by so quickly! Halloween was one month ago, though it seems less. Christmas is in a few short weeks, with 2008 coming one week later. It is said that flies when you’re having fun; Kermit said, “time’s fun when you’re having flies.”
Regardless of one’s species, whether frog or human, it cannot be said that everything this year has been fun. In February, my wife and I lost our baby after thirteen weeks. That tragedy seems so long ago, yet not so long ago at the same time. Then, in October, we lost another.
I have kept myself busy–some might say too busy–with a variety of things this year. I graduated with my Master’s degree, studied for the GRE, applied for the PhD program, preached revival services, started a new website called FaithTag, began the PhD program, spent time with my family, served my church as best as I could, preached, began helping my father’s campaign for County Chairman, tried to maintain this site… and much more.
Yes, it’s been a busy year. What a time it’s been, and I look forward to what lies ahead!
