A series of brief response papers will be made available over the next few weeks. These are intended to provide a summary of the Biblical perspective on various issues that churches, church leaders, and individual believers encounter each day. The first topic made available deals with divorce and remarriage. With some studies showing the divorce rate near 50%, this epidemic is found not only in the secular world, but within the body of Christ. These response reports will summarize the biblical perspective of this and many other issues.
I encourage every Christian to study the word of God, ask Him to help you understand, and depend on the Holy Spirit to guide you as you seek to understand the Bible. One of the most critical problems today is that Christians read the Bible, but do not study it. Christians are inundated with books on how to read the entire Bible in a short time period, but less information on how to understand and apply what was read. I encourage all Christians to take Paul’s instructions to Timothy as their own instructions:
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, NASB).
